What we use

• Data by census section from Istat (the Italian National Institute of Statistics) at 31 December 2021 and 2023, from the permanent population census: residents by age, foreign residents, households, homes.
• 2011 census by section, to see how the area has changed.
• Territorial boundaries, that is the boundaries of the sections. Licence CC BY 4.0 for all of them.

How we use them

The report finds the census section where the address falls and compares its figures with those for the whole municipality: number of residents, estimated average age, share of people over 65, foreign residents, people per household, unoccupied homes and the trend since 2011.

Limits

• A section may contain only a few dozen people: in small sections percentages change a lot even when only a few people move.
• The average age is estimated from five-year age bands, not from exact ages.
• Section boundaries changed between 2011 and 2021: we calculate the trend on the municipality as a whole.
