Schools, pharmacies, shops and other services from Overture Maps open data.
What we use
Overture Maps Places, the points of interest published every month by the Overture Maps Foundation, a consortium that combines data from several providers. The licences are CDLA Permissive 2.0 for most of the data, Apache 2.0 for Foursquare data and CC0 for AllThePlaces.
How we use them
We only use places with a stated confidence of at least 0.7 that are still open. We group them into eight categories: schools, healthcare, pharmacies, supermarkets and food shops, stations and transport, sport, parks and green spaces, restaurants and cafés. The report counts how many there are within 500 metres and 1 kilometre and names the nearest one, with the straight-line distance.
When the same name appears several times from different providers, we count it only once.
Limits
- Completeness varies from area to area: some services may be missing, and some recently closed businesses may still appear.
- Some categories are imprecise: for example private courses or driving schools may end up under "schools".
- Distances are straight-line distances, not walking distances.
